Hi, I'm Brett

Marketing guru by day, FOSS dev by night.

Current Projects

I’m a Media, Information and Technoculture graduate from Western University with a background spanning content marketing, video production, and open-source infrastructure. I enjoy working across disciplines — whether that’s crafting campaigns for technical buyers or tuning Linux kernels for production traffic.

HJV Equipment — Content & Marketing Specialist Since April 2023, I’ve been running content and marketing for HJV Equipment, an AGCO, CLAAS, and HORSCH dealer serving farmers and agribusiness operators across Ontario. My work covers the full go-to-market loop: writing, video, ad campaigns, sales enablement, and channel strategy. I translate complex mechanical and agronomic systems into content that actually moves deals forward — my top-performing piece has cleared 120K+ views in a specialized niche, and a recent 6-week campaign generated 12 qualified demo bookings. Beyond content, I’ve taken ownership of DNS and email security infrastructure, led a ground-up CRM redesign, and rolled out digital signage across all branches.

plex-cdn I designed and operate two production CDNs that emerged after Cloudflare couldn’t support the traffic patterns I needed. The video CDN delivered roughly 92 PB in its first year; the API CDN sustains around 180 TB/month at 50–80 RPS. The stack includes TLS termination with Lua and Redis, SNI-based routing, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 optimization, and Linux kernel tuning for real production load. Configuration is released under the GNU Public License on GitHub (125 ★).

Swizzin & Autobrr I’m an active contributor and maintainer on Swizzin (2.4k ★), a modular seedbox installer framework for dedicated servers. I’ve built application installers, contributed to the documentation site, and written public guides on Docker integration. I also contribute bug fixes and testing to Autobrr (2.5k ★) across high-load environments, and maintain hosted-scripts (129 ★) for applications outside the core Swizzin platform.

nightwalker A dark-themed WebUI for qBittorrent, forked and maintained on GitHub (95 ★). A small but well-used project in the self-hosting community.

Technical Writing I publish practitioner-focused posts on distributed systems, Linux internals, and networking at brettpetch.ca — covering topics like CDN architecture, gRPC proxying, TLS termination, and kernel tuning.
